New Philippine Cinema Fund-raisers

Hello!

Ang mga sumusunod po ay mga iilang film-makers na sinimulan nang mangalap ng pondo para sa kanilang mga proyekto at ikaw ay maaaring makatulong!

JOHN TORRES' LUKAS NIÑO

"Here’s the premise

What if you had the chance to swim to the other shore to skip going through an impending heartbreak, the one heartbreak you are most afraid of? What if you get the chance to skip that? You swim across a river and reach the other bank remembering nothing else from the past, bearing only the scars — not the memory — of that heartbreak.

Swimming across is almost like waking up from a nightmare you do not entirely remember. You are relieved that it’s over but you see yourself affected by your jumping over.

Here are the characters

Lukas – A boy who cannot control the shaking of his jaw because of the gift of tongues, speaking a language no one understands

Lorena – A girl who wakes up one day seeing that their house is being transformed into an eatery, not knowing that there is a film shoot going on. She cannot see that they are just making a movie for a day. Lorena then sees Lukas’ shaking jaw.

Amar – A young man who owns a voice-taping business to be sent out to the villagers’ relatives overseas. Amar has been wanting to swim to the other bank because of Alona.

Alona – A young woman who was promised a role in a film during a shoot in their village. She swims across the river to chase after the film crew that has left. Reaching the other bank, she ends up spending time looking over the village, wanting to go back home.

One day –

Amar arrives, and Alona sees that he has the same scars she bears.

(I cannot go into the details because everything is still very much up in the air, but know that I am very excited about the constant evolving of things each day.)"

ARCHIE DEL MUNDO'S VERONICA SALVE

"Veronica is an actress acclaimed abroad for an international film she did a few years ago. However, her life back home is not exactly lustrous as she struggles to keep up with the competition from younger and more famous actresses. Film offers have become few to none. She cannot believe she has to endure once again the same hardship she experienced when she was just starting. In principles, she maintains that she no longer the “struggling actress” she once was who could just take any role. Im not just for cameos anymore, Im way past that stage,” she insists. She is always gunning for the lead. However, reality slaps her everytime when the roles she so aspired and brilliantly auditioned for do not fall into her lap in the end.

She maintains that although she needs to strive hard to get more acting work to get back on track and redeem her loved ones, she wants even more to prove to everyone in the business that she has more talents in her that she could offer against the odds of the ridiculous commercial standard of local film industry. Veronica says there isnt any other job she can do. Acting is the only profession she knows she is good at, and that her high art is her only fortune. She always reflects that acting makes her happy despite her sorry existence. This is where she escapes from them all.

The Project

"VERONICA SALVE" is a motion picture budgeted to be produced at PhP 3 million, and for theatrical exhibition in the Philippines and abroad. The film genre is docu-drama, with attributes of socio-cultural/ socio-political reflection on different facets of the Filipino film industry; and with central values on family and feminine identity."

EMERSON REYES' MNL 143

"A long FX ride from Buendia to Fairview. Approximately 20 Kilometers on the road where different life stories race to be told: responsibility, morality, integrity and reality. Familiar stories, some you've already heard of on street corners from friends and neighbors. Stories of ordinary people as they struggle with hope, resignation and compromise.

They are people from different walks of life: a mother looking for validation from her family, a young couple dealing with morality, a small child with a simple joy. Manang Gloria and her prejudice; a woman who loves the absence of waiting, and the activist armed with nothing but principles and convictions. Then there’s Mila who strongly believes she deserves to have her happy endings back. Her story is nothing new. It has been retold countless times in movies and even in badly written love songs. Ramil her ex-lover, an FX taxi driver who never gives up searching for his true love. He's not afraid to find the meaning of his life from his own sense of happiness. Hoping for the sense of stillness even as the world around him seems to be changing fast.

MNL 143 puts a comical spin to your daily commute and turns it into a crazy emotional roller coaster. Because sometimes we just have to jump and do it. Jump in and learn from it. A journey reflecting life. A long ride which you don’t know where to get off and what to expect; it could be life in despair; dreams; and desire. But, in the end, we'll find a way to keep things simple in this journey that is always never complete."

Gustong gusto ko itong film na ito. Ibang iba ang atmosphere na hindi ko na naramdaman uli sa ibang film. Medyo sensitive na topic, at medyo sensitive na characters. Intense.
