Film Notes: July 2012

From Up on Poppy Hill (Goro Miyazaki, 2011) 4/5. di ko pa napanuod yung Earthsea (baka within this month pa), kaya di ko siya macompare.
Walang Ghibli film ngayong taon, next year pa daw yung Tale of the Bamboo Cutter ni Takahata. maganda itong pampalipas ng taon. :)

Man Who Fell to Earth (Remix) (Pen-ek Ratanaruang, 2010) 5/5. 3-minuter made out of recycled film and TV Ad footages for environmental advocacy. Husay pa rin.

MNL 143 (Emerson Reyes, 2012) 4.5/5. girlfriend and I were crying with Alan Paule.

Night of the Living Bread (Kevin S. O'Brien, 1990) 5/5. short films na lang ang napapanuod ko lately. hahahayssss

My Neighbor Totoro (Hayao Miyazaki, 1988) 5/5. ang soft talaga siguro in real life ni totoro (not his/her/its real name). this is actually the same reason kaya dumidikit ang Pixar people kay miyazaki, para mapapayag siyang magkaroon ng adaptation neto. most probably, if it's not directed or written by Miyazaki, it would only get bad. only the man can do it.

White (Adrian Gonzales, 2010) 5/5. sarap lang sa puso. :)

PTU (Johnnie To, 2003) 5/5. Throw Down's evil twin brother. No nice people here. Badder than the baddest bad ass in the world. You can have your Pulp Fiction now, I'll just keep this for the rest of my life.

Himizu (Sion Sono, 2012) 5/5. Sono redeemed himself. I haven't read the original material, but reading other works of Minoru Furuya made me familiar with the characters. I sympathize with the main character. I liked his guts. That scene when he faced the yakuza boss and his assistant even beating him to death was one of the most inspirational scenes I've seen lately. Here's for growing up, Sono!

Cyclo (Tran Anh Hung, 1995) 5/5
The City of Lost Souls (Takashi Miike, 2000) 5/5
Posas (Lawrence Fajardo, 2012) 3/5
Let This Film Serve as a Manifesto for a New Cinema (Nick Deocampo, 1990) 5/5
Recuerdo of Two Sundays and Two Roads that Lead to the Sea (Romy Vitug|Bibsy Carballo|Eric Torres, 1969) 5/5
Ang Magpakailanman (Raymond Red, 1982) 5/5
Bwakaw (Jun Lana, 2012) 4/5

Kalayaan (Adolf Alix, Jr., 2012) 5/5
Kamada (Raymond Red, 1997) 5/5
Ang Panagtagbo sa Akong mga Apohan (Malaya Camporedondo, 2010) 5/5

3D Sex and Zen (Christopher Sun, 2011) 2/5. I still think this would've been a way better use of 3D than Titanic 3D if this was straight forward porn

Ang Katapusang Bagting (Remton Siega Zuasola, 2010) 5/5. ang sakit lang.

Sunless (Chris Marker, 1983) 5/5. I love most of the scenes, probably all, especially that scene at the Cat Temple, and all of those scenes with animals. Just surreal that the day after I saw this, Marker died.

Exiled (Johnnie To, 2006) 5/5. masakit din sa heart. Nakakaiyak.
