Film Notes: November

Initial D Third Stage - 4/5

Detective Conan Movie 15: Quarter of Silence (Yasuichiro Yamamoto|Kobun Shizuno, 2011) 4/5. Still the same classic Detective anime. It seems that, they are still first graders after 15 years of being aired on TV with 639 episodes and counting. Conan's still great.

Human Centipede (First Sequence) 4/5.

Nanga Parbat (Joseph Vilsmaier, 2009) 3/5. - Ganda ng landscapes. Daming puti.

Nakakaawa yung bida, pati yung nanay niya.

Blind (Sang-hoon Anh, 2011) 3/5. - Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. Yun lang. Ganda nung lead actress.

Sa Kanto ng Ulap at Lupa (Mes De Guzman, 2011) 5/5 - Nakakahumaling ang mga kuha. Parang sabay-sabay kaming naha-high. Patungo sa langit. Paitaas. Paitaas. Nakakawasak kapag kinimkim. (XD)

Kakaibang mystery. Magaling at hot yung lead actress. hehe.

Once Upon A Time In Anatolia (Nuri Bilge Ceylan, 2011) 5/5. Why everything is so perfect? I don't really know. It's just.... aaaaghhhh!!!! Perfect!!!! (+5 more points to the gorgeous Cansu Demirci's (mukhtar's daughter) appearance)

Epek si Raymond Bagatsing, second favorite role since Serafin Geronimo. :)

Breathless (Ik-joon Yang, 2008) 4/5 - heavy. funny. tapos heavy ulit. hay buhay. (+5 points sa presence nung lead actress Kot-bi Kim, muntik ko nang maitanong nung Q&A portion yung cellphone number niya, buti nahiya ako. XD)

Gokaiger Goseiger - Super Sentai 199 Heroes Grand Battle (Noboru Takemoto, 2011) 4/5 - For super sentai fans only. Don't expect too much plot, expect too much awesomeness. 35 Super Sentai Teams (Power Rangers if you may) gathered for their 35th year to beat the very first nemesis. 199 people-in-tights and 35 giant robots, can't beat that.

Lawas Kan Pinabli (Christopher Gozum, 2011) 4/5 - It was a surprise. Lovely. It showed a lot of things that was never shown on any films about OFWs.

If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle (Florin Serban, 2010) 3/5. I forgot to mention this earlier. It's a melodrama set in a prison. Kind-of interesting premise there. The hostage part is somewhat funny.

Siglo ng Pagluluwal (Lav Diaz, 2011) 5/5. I disagree that this is lav's tribute to cinema, but rather his view point on cinema's current state. Like I said to you earlier, cinema is confused on where it should place itself, especially during these times of ideological war between extreme-fundamentalists and post-structuralists. After some short talk with Jet Leyco, I realized it was an autobiographical work spanning from his early film-making days to the present. Making my empathy for it to become stronger. It was all his dilemmas, his problems, his delusions, his hopes, his love.

Mapang-akit (John Torres, 2011) 4/5. Medyo distracted ako nung nanunuod, pero more-or-less, it was a lovely story of old lovers fighting for their love from all of the misunderstandings around them. Colors were delicious.

A Date with Jao Mapa (Quark Henares, 2002) 5/5.
nakakatuwa, haha. heto pala pinagbatayan niya ng style ng Keka.
Jao: Saklolo!!!!

The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence) (Tom Six, 2011) 5/5. Black and white is a good choice, really. Making it color would've been a life-changing experience though.

The Amazing Mr. Bickford (Frank Zappa, 1987) 5/5. One of the most intense use of clay animation technique that I've ever seen. Bickford and Zappa made a good team.

When Timawa Meets Delgado (Ray Gibraltar, 2007) 4/5. whew! Grabeh. Change plans change plans. First film ba ito about nursing boom?

The Namesake (Mira Nair, 2006) 3/5. Star cinema na may attitude. hehe.,

Hotel Chevalier & The Darjeeling Limited (Wes Anderson, 2007) 5/5. hays....

Tekken: Blood Vengeance (Youichi Mouri, 2011) 4/5. Actually a great follow-up/replacement to the embarrassing 1998 adaptation. Great CGI animation, lacked a bit on the fighting scenes since it still used Mo-Cap. Namco still can't do it like Square-Enix do. I just hope I'd see the Japanese dubbed first, Americans always suck at dubbing. Japan recently produced some great direct-to-video movies, such as 2008's Resident Evil:Degeneration, and Nana to Kaoru earlier this year.

A Town Called Panic (Stephane Aubier|Vincent Patar, 2009) 5/5. Funny, had it's charms too. Love how they all fly around so.... "senselessly". Hahaha. May word palang ganon. One of the most intense use of stop-motion animation.

OOO, Den-O, All Riders: Let's Go Kamen Riders (Osamu Kaneda, 2011) - 4.8/5. here's the 40th anniversary offering of the Kamen Rider team, much better than that super sentai film. More substance, great action choreography, more awesome.
